And he went out again to the sea, and all the people were coming to him, and he was teaching them. And passing by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax-booth, and he saith to him, “Follow me.” And having arisen, he went after him. And it came to pass, as he was reclining in his house, that many tax-collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and with his disciples; for there were many, and they were following him. And the scribes and the Pharisees, having seen him eating with the tax-collectors and sinners, said to his disciples, “Why is it that he eateth and drinketh with tax-collectors and sinners?” And Jesus, having heard, saith to them, “They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
